This leaf portrait abstraction is composed with a Burly Tobacco leaf from a plant seeded in Kentucky. She wintered over in my studio and, in spite of being almost entirely consumed by a very hungry caterpillar, she came back late summer and produced this beautiful leaf.
The background around the tobacco leaf was lightly wire-brushed back to raw copper and hand waxed. Edges of the panel have been hammered with a texturing hammer; this gives the surface of the image an undulating quality. The panel is mounted to a concrete hardy board with a french cleat hanger and can be hung indoors or out.
12” wide X 24” high X 3/4” deep.
